The International Day of the Girl is a day set aside by the United Nations (UN) to recognize injustices against globally marginalized girls. As a member of the Peninsula Section's NCJW (National Council of Jewish Women) Generation Next, I sought to help spread awareness on both a local and a national level about the importance of this day. I offered letters advocating for proclamations from various government officials, including Governor Cuomo, Senator Kaminsky, Representative Kathleen Rice, and Nassau County Executive Laura Curran. These proclamations were later granted and can be seen in the photo gallery below. Furthermore, I used my position as an Executive Board member of the student council to work with school chairs and principal to speak to the entire school population as to why this day is imperative and what we can do as members of the community to facilitate a greater future. As a result of my efforts, the proclamations were displayed in my school's (George W. Hewlett High School) main hallway.
